Discontinuity is the interruption of cyclical or perfect ("free") being. It is fundamentally synonymous with negative being, or mediation.
The symbol most closely associated with discontinuity is a circle which is incomplete– there is a break in the whole – a breach, which allows it's contents to seep out or outer content to seep in, mediating being.
Being which is cyclical is often called "recursive", while being which is mediated is "discursive."
