Art

From InfraWiki

Art in Greek Philosophy, especially for Aristotle, was associated with creation of objects or things which are useful:

Every art and every inquiry, and similarly every action and pursuit, is thought to aim at some good; and for this reason the good has rightly been declared to be that at which all things aim. But a certain difference is found among ends; some are activities, others are products apart from the activities that produce them. Where there are ends apart from the actions, it is the nature of the products to be better than the activities. Now, as there are many actions, arts, and sciences, their ends also are many; the end of the medical art is health, that of shipbuilding a vessel, that of strategy victory, that of economics wealth. But where such arts fall under a single capacity- as bridle-making and the other arts concerned with the equipment of horses fall under the art of riding, and this and every military action under strategy, in the same way other arts fall under yet others- in all of these the ends of the master arts are to be preferred to all the subordinate ends; for it is for the sake of the former that the latter are pursued. It makes no difference whether the activities themselves are the ends of the actions, or something else apart from the activities, as in the case of the sciences just mentioned.[1]

Art also means unique and individual man-made organization of some appropriate medium, paints and canvas, musical notes, marble, words, etc., which is intrinsically satisfying and inherently meaningful, and can have aesthetic quality.

Haz explains how the Black Square of Malevich was the last work of art that could express itself through a visual medium, exhausting the possibility of any form of novelty in the realm of art. Art as a medium, e.g. painting, is not something which is merely trendy or looks cool, but has a groundbreaking historical contribution to Art.

Artists in the past were actually trying to give expression to the entirety of what reality was. They were actually trying to express the truth of universal existence in a way that had not been done before. And if it was done before then art is dead and there's no need for it.

Modern Art is dead. So this is a new era of art which is irreducible to individual works (there's no single picture nor single image, not even a single movie or TV show that suffices to constitute a work of art.)[2] In this new era, art exists as artistic themes taken as a whole, giving expression to reality as an expression of history and truth. Socialist realist art contained the kernel of true modern art. In this way, art is irreversibly socialized, and the mainstream idea of "art" is mass-produced, historically nihilist slop which has no connection to the modern experience of modern humans.

Whereas in previous stages of artistic expression individual artists gave groundbreaking historical contributions to art, in the modern or current era art becomes an inherently social phenomenon. "High art" on the other hand is reactionary, seeking to return to the traditional means of creation and/or seeking to stagnate the development of the means of creating art.

It is important to understand the concept of Art, to understand AI and AI art: AI has no history, culture, discourse, or society. It is just an unprecedented way in which individuals can interface with the total social reality produced by human beings. It is through AI that there is this possibility that all the wealth mankind has produced can be aggregated in a way that is compatible with the humanity of individuals-- their individual human sensibility and taste.[3]
