Left-wing politics politics are political positions based on the left-right political scale, which is used to broadly and colloquially describe political beliefs.

In a historical sense, left-wing refers to policies which advocate for a new political arrangement, in opposition to the status quo and the existing powers.

Communism is thus a left-wing form of politics because "we call communism the real movement which abolishes the present state of things."[1]
