Nicolae Ceausescu was a Romanian politician that served as the General Secretary of the Romanian Communist Party from 1965 until 1989 and as President of the Socialist Republic of Romania from 1974 until his execution by a group of military and political leaders led by Ion Iliescu in the 1989 Romanian coup d'état.
