The People's Party, also known as the Populist Party and more recently as the Movement for a People's Party, is a third party in the United States that is known for traditionally left-wing views and its common usage of populism. First founded in 1891, the People's Party was originally led by James B. Weaver and managed to garner 22 Electoral College votes in the 1892 American presidential election. The initial version of the party died out by the 1912 American presidential election, although it was later revived in 1971. The contemporary version of the People's Party was founded in 2017 by Nick Brana and Jimmy Dore. The current leadership of the People's Party works side-by-side with the Center for Political Innovation (CPI) and the Libertarian Party (LP), being one of the main sponsors of Unite Against the Imperialists and Rage Against the War Machine.
