Joe Sims is a co-chair of the CPUSA. During the 2022 midterm elections, Sims argued that "Democracy is on the ballot" referring to the Party's stance against MAGA republicans in favor of the fascist Democratic Party.[1]

He has written against core principles of Marxism-Leninism such as Democratic Centralism and the Dictatorship of the Proletariat. He has also praised famous anarchist and anti-communist feminist Emma Goldman.
