Caleb Maupin is the founder of the Center for Political Innovation. He has literally nothing to do with Infrared.
Relationship to Infrared
Infrared was initially interested in collaborating with Maupin because on a superficial level they shared common ground on many issues. Both had similar foreign policy views and an acute awareness of many of the problems characterizing leftism in the United States.
Infrared also appreciated that Caleb Maupin was among the first content creators to defend AES in debates with Breadtubers and was paying the price of complete marginalization because of it.
Haz Al-Din spoke at CPI's Austin conference in 2022 but only as a guest speaker with no formal affiliation to CPI at all.
However beyond that, they have little in common. Despite this, many have erroneously lumped Infrared in with Caleb Maupin and his 'CPI' project, as though Infrared is somehow an extension of it. This cannot be further from the truth.
Disagreements with Infrared
Caleb Maupin is a crypto-Trotskyite and has Trotskyite origins. The 'uniqueness' of his worldview lies in combining the ideas of Sam Marcy with various eclectic ideas he copied from the Schiller Institute.
Infrared does not regard him as a Marxist-Leninist in either content or form. From Infrared's perspective, Caleb Maupin engages in ridiculous forms of voluntarism and has a completely outdated relationship to the information age.
Infrared also sees Caleb Maupin as dogmatic. He has a flimsy understanding of contemporary philosophy and theory. The theoretical canon from which he draws his 'ideas' is superficial and narrow.
From Infrared's perspective, Caleb Maupin is not a theorist but rather just a sloganeer.
Infrared CUTS TIES with Maupin
As of 2023, Infrared has absolutely no affiliation to Caleb Maupin whatsoever. Any tangential or polite association was severed because after his extremely embarrassing internal debacle with his drug-addicted CPI members, he tried desperately to deflect and throw Haz Al-Din under the bus, despite the fact that Haz had nothing to do with CPI at all. Caleb did this by making the bizarre comparison between the accusations leveled against him by his own members and obscure tweets directed at Haz by anonymous Twitter trolls with single-digit follower counts.[1] This left audiences baffled and confused, but it was not surprising given Caleb's own delusional lack of self-awareness.
At that point, Infrared cut all ties with Maupin, considering this to be dishonorable behavior. This separation was further cemented when Caleb Maupin made a bizarre video where he repeatedly stated that he was "not Jackson Hinkle,"[2] and attacked Jackson out of pure, spiteful jealousy towards his success, insinuating that Jackson is 'a really, really bad guy' based on vague allusions to 'private sources' he refused to disclose. In other words, he was bullshitting in the most desperate of possible bids to smear Jackson, the closest ally of Infrared.
Needless to say, there is no indication of any reconciliation any time soon between Caleb and Infrared.
