Mao Zedong (26 December 1893 — 9 September 1976), also commonly known as Chairman Mao or Mao, was born in Xiangtan, Hunan Province, and was the most important modern [[China|Chinese]] leader, patriot, revolutionary, statesman, strategist and [[Marxist]] theorist. Mao was one of the founding figures of the [[Communist Party of China]] and the founder of the [[China|People's Republic of China (PRC)]], leading the country from 1949 until his death in 1976.
