Friedrich Engels (28 November, 1820 - 5 August, 1895) was a German philosopher, political economist, and political theorist. He is best known for his collaboration with Karl Marx on the development of Communism. Engels was born in 1820 in Barmen, Germany and died in 1895 in London, England. He was a close friend and collaborator of Karl Marx and together they co-wrote many influential works, including The Communist Manifesto. Engels was heavily influenced by his family's textile manufacturing business and his work as a businessman, which gave him a keen understanding of the workings of industrial capitalism. He wrote extensively on the condition of the working class, and his book The Condition of the Working Class in England is considered a classic of social and economic history. He also wrote on the subject of colonialism and imperialism, and his book The Origin of the Family, Private Property, and the State is considered a classic of Marxist theory. Engels was a key figure in the development of Marxism and his ideas have been influential in the development of many socialist and communist movements around the world. He played a major role in the formation of the First International, which was an organization of socialist and labor parties from around the world.
